Former Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel is prioritising joining Barcelona or Manchester United after leaving Bayern Munich.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Thomas Tuchel has decided on his preferred destinations heading into the summer. The former Chelsea manager wants to move to Barcelona or Manchester United after he leaves Bayern Munich once the 2023/24 season ends.

Thomas Tuchel has been one of the most highly-rated and highly sought-after managers for a long time. The 50-year-old did not have a long career as a footballer and entered the managerial world in 2007 by joining FC Augsburg’s reserve side. But he rose in prominence during his stint with Mainz before moving to Borussia Dortmund in 2015.

However, Tuchel’s stock skyrocketed during his spell with Paris Saint-Germain, although that stint ended in acrimony. A short stint with Chelsea followed, and he guided the West London club to a surprise UEFA Champions League triumph in 2021. Meanwhile, the German tactician’s latest assignment has been at Bayern Munich.

The former Chelsea manager guided Bayern Munich to the Bundesliga title last term but has endured a horrendous 2023/24 campaign with Die Roten. Bayern might end a season without a trophy for the first time in over a decade. So, it is hardly surprising that Tuchel will leave Bayern Munich when 2023/24 ends. However, he knows which club he wants to manage next.

Recent reports have claimed that the 50-year-old is open to joining Barcelona or Manchester United ahead of the 2024/25 season. But the latest update suggests that Thomas Tuchel views those two clubs as his priority destinations heading into the summer.

Reports have also linked the former Chelsea manager with other prospective jobs, including West Ham United. But managing Barcelona and Manchester United is unsurprisingly more appealing. While Barcelona will part ways with Xavi Hernandez when the 2023/24 season ends, Erik ten Hag is under pressure at Manchester United.

So, both jobs might be up for grabs in the coming months, and it will be interesting to see if Tuchel can secure one of his priority assignments heading into the 2024/25 season. For now, he is eager to manage either Barcelona or Manchester United.
