Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be open to taking up an interim role at Bayern Munich should Thomas Tuchel leave prematurely.

According to Florian Plettenberg, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be OK taking over the reins at Bayern Munich in an interim capacity should Thomas Tuchel depart prematurely. The German is set to part ways after the season, although more bad results could see him leave well before his time.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer open to interim role

Bayern Munich have found themselves looking for yet another new manager as their struggle to find a long-term solution continues. The current head coach, Thomas Tuchel, joined them last year under different circumstances and replaced Julian Nagelsmann.

A year since his arrival, Tuchel has already decided to quit the club following a string of terrible results, which has seen them lose in the Champions League and fall behind Bayer Leverkusen in the Bundesliga race. While the German will leave in the summer, the club might even consider terminating his contract immediately if the results are disappointing.

Bayern Munich are keen to sign Xabi Alonso next summer, although they have considered other names, including former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer. The Norwegian has been without a job since quitting his role at Old Trafford in 2022.

Florian Plettenberg insists the Norwegian would be open to taking up an interim role at Bayern should Tuchel depart prematurely. Current Bayern Munich director, Christoph Freund, has been monitoring Solskjaer for some time now and could consider him for the temporary role should Tuchel get the sack.

Solskjaer is not a long-term target for Bayern Munich

Solskjaer’s links with Bayern Munich are vital, as earlier reports might have hinted at the club looking at him as a long-term successor to Tuchel. However, that is not the case, as the Bavarians have other plans and are keen on Alonso for the role from next season onwards.

Reports suggest that Alonso prefers Liverpool over Bayern Munich, although nothing has been decided yet. The Merseydiers and the Bavarians will likely battle for the Spaniard in the summer, with both clubs finding themselves in the same situation with their managerial seat.

Hence, while Solskjaer remains a target, he is only an interim target. The Norwegian must be keen to get back to management after a decently long hiatus from the dugout, and the profile of Bayern, albeit for a brief period, would suit his career.
