Tottenham Hotspur are now reportedly closing in on a deal to appoint Ange Postecoglou as their new manager.

Tottenham have been linked with a number of managers in recent weeks, and Ange Postecoglou seems to have won the race for the job. Reputed Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano has claimed that the deal could be finalised soon, with the 57-year-old verbally agreeing to a two-year deal. But Spurs still need to secure the green light from Celtic.

Postecogou is currently the manager of Celtic Football Club, and he has done an exceptional job in Scotland since taking over. The 57-year-old guided the Scottish outfit to a treble this season, and he helped them win two trophies last year.

There is no doubt that he has proven his pedigree in Scotland, and he will be hoping to take up a new challenge now. The opportunity to manage in the Premier League can be hard to turn down and the 57-year-old will be excited about the possibility of managing Tottenham next season.

It has been a disappointing campaign for Tottenham, and they have missed out on Champions League qualification. They decided to part with manager Antonio Conte earlier this season, and the Australian will be replacing the Italian in the summer.

Antonio Conte’s style of football failed to get the best out of the current Tottenham side. So it will be interesting to see if Postecoglou can get the players firing on all cylinders. The 57-year-old’s attacking approach garnered a lot of praise at Celtic, and he will be expected to execute a similar style of football at Tottenham next season.

There is no doubt that Tottenham have the bones of a very good squad. So there is no reason why they cannot challenge for major trophies with a few intelligent additions during the summer transfer window. Meanwhile, Spurs have made significant progress in Postecoglou’s pursuit, verbally agreeing to a two-year deal after intending to open talks today.

It will be interesting to see if Daniel Levy is willing to back the new Tottenham manager with adequate funds during the summer transfer window. Spurs will have to plug the major weaknesses in their squad to get back into the top four and compete for trophies.

Meanwhile, Postecoglou has done well to get the most out of his players throughout his career. So Tottenham could certainly use a manager like him who can help them punch above their weight. But the green light from Celtic still remains, post which the deal can be finalised.

Just for comparison, Stevie Gerard won the title in Scotland. How did he do in the prem, and where is he now? Big, big mistake by Levy, in my opinion.
