Manchester United are reportedly prepared to splash the cash on fresh terms for star striker Erling Haaland, a target for Real Madrid.

According to The Sun, Premier League champions Manchester City are ready to make star striker Erling Haaland the Premier League’s top scorer.

The Norwegian international arrived at The Etihad last summer from Borussia Dortmund and has been an instant hit in the Premier League. With 42 goals and five assists in 37 games for Manchester City across all competitions, Haaland is truly a beast upfront with a scent of the goal.

The 22-year-old is arguably the best centre-forward in Europe at the moment and the best player to don the role for the Sky Blues since Sergio Aguero. He has added a new dimension to Pep Guardiola’s side, handing them an infallible goalscorer to lead the line.

His maiden campaign in England has convinced the Premier League champions of his prowess and they are determined to extend his stay at the club. Haaland’s current deal at The Etihad runs until 2027. And penning a 12-month extension will guarantee his future at the club in the near future.

The electric run of form has further enhanced his reputation as a goalscorer and seen him linked with a move to Real Madrid. The Spanish champions will need to replace an ageing Karim Benzema sooner or later and Haaland certainly fits the bill.

The Norwegian’s agent has done little to quell speculation by claiming that his client dreams of a move to the Santiago Bernabeu. Manchester City beat Real Madrid to the puck last summer and are keen to thwart the European champions for a second time by offering Haaland improved terms.

The 22-year-old earns £375,000 per week and will see his wage bumped up to £500,000 per week, making him the highest-paid player in the English top division. With Guardiola also extending his stay at the club by two more years, Manchester City could retain their manager and goalscorer to continue dominating domestic football.

There was talk of Haaland having a release clause in his original contract at Manchester City. But that appears to be defunct now that Guardiola has pledged his loyalty to the club. Haaland’s representatives appear keen to enter negotiations with the Sky Blues and there is hope that he could agree to the new contract.

Doing so will make him the second Manchester City striker to extend his contract in recent weeks. Julian Alvarez followed up his World Cup win with Argentina by penning a lucrative new deal that will keep him at The Etihad until 2028. Having their two best strikers on board will give Pep Guardiola and co. enough leeway to continue their rebuild in the months to come.
