Casemiro will return, but Anthony Martial remains unavailable for the game between Manchester United and Nottingham Forest on Wednesday.

Manchester United will hope to take a step closer to reaching the Carabao Cup final when they lock horns with Nottingham Forest at City Ground on Wednesday night. And Erik ten Hag has greeted a positive update on the team news front ahead of his side’s latest fixture.

Casemiro is available after serving a one-match ban against Arsenal. But the Brazilian international is the only player returning to contention for the midweek cup tie. And Anthony Martial remains on the sidelines due to a thigh injury that has bothered him lately.

Nottingham Forest vs Manchester United: Preview: Probable Lineups, Prediction, Tactics, Team News & Key Stats

Erik ten Hag provided a brief update on the team news front during his pre-match press conference. The Dutch manager simply said, “The players who were not available for the Arsenal game – Dalot, Martial, Sancho – are also not available for tomorrow.”

While Jadon Sancho is not available to take on Nottingham Forest, he has resumed training. Another player to join the first team is Axel Tuanzebe. And the duo might be in contention to feature against Reading in the FA Cup later this week.

As for the starting lineup on Wednesday, David de Gea will retain his spot between the sticks. And Manchester United will line up in the usual 4-2-3-1 formation in front of the Spaniard. Aaron Wan-Bissaka, Raphael Varane, Lisandro Martinez, and Luke Shaw will continue in the defensive unit.

As for the midfield unit, Casemiro will return to the starting lineup straight away, replacing Scott McTominay. And the Brazilian international should line up alongside compatriot Fred, who should replace a tiring Christian Eriksen. Bruno Fernandes will be the most advanced midfielder for Manchester United, reprising his usual no. 10 role.

The offensive unit should remain unchanged in the wake of Martial’s continued absence. So Wout Weghorst will make his Carabao Cup debut for Manchester United, leading the line for the Red Devils again. Marcus Rashford will continue on the left flank, with Antony featuring on the right wing. And Alejandro Garnacho and Facundo Pellistri will be among the backup options.

Predicted Manchester United XI: de Gea; Wan-Bissaka, Varane, Martinez, Shaw; Casemiro, Fred; Antony, Bruno Fernandes, Rashford; Weghorst
