Chelsea defender Andreas Christensen is reportedly in advanced talks with Barcelona over a Bosman move in the summer.

According to a report by Spanish publication SPORT, the discussions between Barcelona and Andreas Christensen over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window have advanced. The Danish defender appears set to leave Chelsea as a free agent.

Andreas Christensen has gradually become one of the most important players in the Chelsea first-team squad since returning from a two-year loan spell with Borussia Monchengladbach. Now one of the first-choice players for Thomas Tuchel, the 25-year-old has been elevated under the tutelage of Thomas Tuchel.

To date, the Danish international has made 148 appearances for Chelsea, with 21 of those outings coming in the ongoing season. But Christensen’s uncertain contract situation has put Chelsea in a spot of bother, as he has entered the final six months of his current deal. This has captured the attention of Barcelona.

Barcelona will need to enter the transfer market for a centre-back for a second successive summer transfer window. That is because Eric Garcia has flattered to deceive since arriving on a free transfer from Manchester City. In addition, Gerard Pique is in the twilight of his career and needs to start getting phased out.

On top of that, Samuel Umtiti, already deemed surplus to requirements despite signing a new contract with Barcelona and linked with Newcastle United, has picked up another long-term injury. That leaves Xavi Hernandez with Clement Lenglet and Ronald Araujo as the only recognised centre-backs at his disposal, with both facing uncertain futures themselves for different reasons.

So Barcelona’s need to sign a centre-back cannot be stressed enough, with Christensen emerging as one of their key targets. And it looks like the Catalan giants have stepped up their efforts to sign the Chelsea defender, having accelerated talks over a possible Bosman move in the summer transfer window.

For his part, the Dane is open to joining Barcelona after leaving Chelsea as a free agent. And while the Blues are scrambling to tie Christensen down to a new long-term contract, their hopes seem to be fading. As things stand, it looks like Christensen is closer to joining Barcelona than staying put at Chelsea.
