Chelsea are hoping to hijack Inter Milan’s attempts to tie down Marcelo Brozovic to a new long-term contract.

The latest report from FC Inter News has offered an update on the future of Marcelo Brozovic. The Inter Milan midfielder is an in-demand player in the Italian market as his current contract in Milan expires at the end of the season, putting a host of clubs across Europe on red alert.

The report does add that Brozovic is keen on prolonging his stay at Inter and keen on remaining in the city. The two parties are even set to hold talks over a potential new deal. But it appears Chelsea are attempting a last gasp effort to lure the experienced midfielder to English shores, though they do face competition from Paris Saint-Germain.

Brozovic is no stranger to interest from the Premier League, though, having been linked with a move to Manchester United and Tottenham as well, earlier this month. His vast experience at the highest level of football coupled with his contributions to Inter’s success seem to have made him an attractive option in the market.

Indeed, the Croatian international has featured in over 250 competitive matches for the Nerazzurri, notably helping them clinch the Scudetto last season. He was also involved in the Croatia team that famously reached the final of the 2018 FIFA World Cup.

Chelsea’s pursuit of Marcelo Brozovic, meanwhile, likely stems from the lack of depth in the ranks. While the likes of Jorginho and N’Golo Kante have indeed been excellent, the club lacks viable alternatives for them. Not to mention, Jorginho’s agent did hint of a potential return to Italy earlier this summer.

As such, head coach Thomas Tuchel could certainly welcome the addition of someone like Brozovic, who can bring a wealth of experience and is capable of controlling the midfield as well as providing ample cover for the defenders.

At the age of 28, the Inter Milan star might not be a future prospect like other targets in Aurelien Tchouameni. But his experience could be vital as Chelsea look to clinch the Premier League title and announce themselves as one of the most dangerous clubs in European football. To that end, the Blues are now considering making a serious approach to explore the possibility of a deal for Brozovic.

In the meantime, though, the Blues are focusing on the pursuit of a new centre-back. Bayern Munich star Niklas Sule has been recently identified as a potential target, with the German also having his contract expiring at the end of the season.
