Manchester City are reportedly prepared to fork out £130 million to land priority target Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur this summer.

According to a report by The Athletic, Manchester City are stepping up their efforts to sign Harry Kane from Tottenham Hotspur in the summer transfer window. The Premier League champions are willing to stump up £130 million to secure the services of the England captain, who is their priority target.

The Harry Kane saga has become one of the most captivating transfer stories of the summer transfer window. Back in the latter stages of the 2020/21 season, it first emerged that Kane was opening up to the possibility of leaving Tottenham, who were set to finish outside the Champions League places. This gave way to the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United being linked with him.

The transfer talk simmered during England’s memorable UEFA Euro 2020 campaign. However, in the last couple of weeks, the speculation surrounding Kane has grown like wildfire, with Manchester City, in particular, intently in pursuit of the 28-year-old.

The rumours have only grown further in the last few days, with Kane not reporting to pre-season training with Tottenham at the end of his holidays. Initially, it was mooted that the England captain was intentionally missing training in a rebellious move to force a move to Manchester City.

However, it has now emerged that Kane was unable to take part in training as he was in isolation due to COVID-19 restrictions imposed in England. Having said that, Manchester City still remain keen on signing Kane even as they edge closer to securing the services of Jack Grealish.

As for their pursuit of Kane, the reigning Premier League champions are pressing ahead with a firm offer for one of their priority targets, with a £130 million bid in the works. It has been suggested that Kane feels he has a “gentleman’s agreement” with Tottenham, although Spurs themselves are not under such an impression.

The eagerness to sign Kane is hardly surprising, as the Citizens look to find a long-term successor for Sergio Aguero, who departed the Etihad earlier in the summer transfer window. What now remains to be seen is if a £130 million bid, if lodged, is enough for Manchester City to land the 28-year-old or if they are forced to raise their offer for him.
