Manchester City are reportedly set to battle Real Madrid and others in the race to sign Kalvin Phillips from Leeds United this summer.

According to a report by Italian outlet Tutto Juve, Real Madrid are facing stiff competition from three other big-name clubs in pursuit of Kalvin Phillips in the summer transfer window. Manchester City have joined the race to sign the English international, valued at £25 million by Leeds United, with Tottenham Hotspur and Juventus showing an interest in him as well.

Kalvin Phillips has quickly established himself as one of the best midfielders in England, having grown leaps and bounds under the tutelage of Marcelo Bielsa at Leeds United. His progress has also helped the 25-year-old become a full-fledged English international, and he has featured heavily for the Three Lions at UEFA Euro 2020.

At Leeds, he has already amassed 211 appearances, even chipping in with 13 goals and 12 assists. A direct result of his tremendous development has also been the interest from some of the biggest clubs in the world, with Real Madrid and Manchester City among those who are hot on his trails.

Real Madrid’s interest in Phillips is not unfounded, considering Casemiro will soon be 30 while Toni Kroos and Luka Modric are approaching the final stages of their respective careers. While he is primarily a holding midfielder, the English international can also play as a box-to-box midfielder, which is why he could be a solid fit for Los Blancos.

Manchester City, on the other hand, are laying down a succession plan for Fernandinho, who is in the twilight of his career. In addition, with Bernardo Silva and Ilkay Gundogan linked with a move to Barcelona, the Premier League giants could be forced to dip their toes in the market for a midfield reinforcement.

To that end, City have been linked with Florian Neuhaus, with Phillips a viable target as well. Apart from Real Madrid and Manchester City, Juventus and Tottenham Hotspur are also interested in the 25-year-old, who is valued at around £25 million by Leeds United.

What now remains to be seen is if Real Madrid end up launching the offensive or Kalvin Phillips. If not, we could then see Juventus and the Premier League giants make the decisive move to land the English international from Leeds United this summer.
