Chelsea have made an official statement to confirm that Fikayo Tomori will be completing his permanent move to AC Milan on July 1. The Serie A giants have exercised their option to sign the English international, who will be penning a four-year contract that will run through to June 30, 2025.

Tomori joined the Chelsea academy back in 2005 ahead of his 8th birthday and subsequently progressed through the ranks before making the grade in the first-team setup at Stamford Bridge over a decade later in 2016. However, it was not until the 2019/20 season that he finally got his big break for Chelsea, following three different loan spells.
A fruitful 2019/20 campaign saw Tomori feature regularly, only for all the hard work to be undone in the first half of the season gone by, as he dropped down the pecking order and became a peripheral figure for Chelsea. With his frustrations reaching a head, Chelsea loaned the 23-year-old defender to AC Milan for the second half of the campaign and it is then when he resurrected his stuttering career.
After an initial teething-in period, Tomori became a fixture in the starting lineup, even usurping AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli and making 22 appearances for the Rossoneri. Such was the impact he made that Milan took no time to strive for a permanent move, with the loan deal having the purchase option embedded in it.
In recent weeks, the Serie A giants finally made a breakthrough in their process of landing the 23-year-old permanently from Chelsea. And the move has now been confirmed, both by AC Milan and Chelsea, with Tomori set for the next stage of his career.
As per the official statement made by AC Milan, Tomori will be putting pen to a four-year contract running through to June 30, 2025 once he completes his permanent switch on July 1. The need to sign Tomori permanently was also imperative, considering Romagnoli is facing an uncertain future at San Siro and could leave the Serie A club this summer.
Tomori is, therefore, just the kind of player to sign, considering he forged a solid partnership at the heart of the AC Milan defence with Simon Kjaer in the second half of the 2020/21 season. As per BBC, Chelsea will receive £24 million for Tomori, who will officially be presented as a permanent AC Milan player at the turn of the month.
