Arsenal have reportedly established contact with Manchester United to seek information about the situation of Donny van de Beek.

According to a report by 90 min, Arsenal appear to be interested in signing Donny van de Beek in the summer transfer window. The Gunners have made a shock approach to rivals Manchester United to seek clarity on the future of the Dutch midfielder.

Donny van de Beek joined Manchester United last summer after having played nearly all of his football at Ajax. The switch to Old Trafford came amid a lot of fanfare, with the 24-year-old being tipped to be a roaring success as well as a long-term solution in midfield.

However, van de Beek ended up starting a mere 15 games all season long, with Bruno Fernandes ahead of him in the pecking order. The Dutch international was also unable to feature in the double pivot, and therefore, it is hardly surprising that there is widespread speculation surrounding his future at Old Trafford. And Arsenal are hoping to take advantage of his situation.

Arsenal are touted to be in the market for midfield reinforcements, as Dani Ceballos and Martin Odegaard have returned to Real Madrid at the end of their loan deals. While the Gunners are pressing ahead with their interest in signing Odegaard on a permanent deal, a sizable asking price is forcing them to consider alternatives.

One of the top targets for Arsenal this summer is Yves Bissouma, but the north Londoners appear set to sign at least two central midfielders, and for good reason. Matteo Guendouzi will return to the Emirates this summer but is likely to leave almost immediately while Mohamed Elneny is merely a bit-part player.

With Granit Xhaka heavily linked with AS Roma, Arsenal definitely need to keep their options open, and to that end, they have turned their attention towards Manchester United. Now, van de Beek seems to be one of the targets for Arsenal, who have already established contact with their Premier League rivals to seek clarity about his situation.

In fact, Arsenal have requested Manchester United keep them updated on his situation at Old Trafford, meaning an intriguing transfer saga could be setting up. Apart from van de Beek, the north London giants have also been linked with Ruben Neves, Ebrima Darboe and Denis Zakaria, among others, and it will be interesting to see who they zero in on for a summer move.
