Chelsea and Liverpool are reportedly among the clubs keeping tabs on Ugurcan Cakir over a possible move in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Turkish outlet Asist Analiz, Ugurcan Cakir is the subject of interest from Chelsea and Liverpool over a possible move in the summer transfer window. The 24-year-old Trabzonspor goalkeeper is set to be observed by the Premier League duo in addition to several others during Turkey’s tie in the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers against Norway.

Cakir has been a part of Trabzonspor since he joined their academy in 2012 and broke into their first-team setup in 2014. However, it was not until the 2018/19 season that the 24-year-old finally managed to establish himself as the first-choice goalkeeper for the Turkish outfit. In fine touch this season, he has kept 10 clean sheets in 29 outings, conceding just 30 goals.

Most recently, Cakir was in impressive form for Turkey, as Netherlands slumped to a shock 4-2 loss in the opening fixture of the FIFA World Cup 2022 Qualifiers in Europe. The shot stopper’s progress seems to have been duly noted as well, and it looks like several clubs, including Chelsea and Liverpool, will have their scouts in attendance when Turkey take on Norway in their next game.

The interest from Chelsea is not surprising, considering Kepa Arrizabalaga is facing an uncertain future at Stamford Bridge. In addition, there have been suggestions that Edouard Mendy is not proving to be too convincing, which is why there have been links with goalkeepers like Gianluigi Donnarumma and Jan Oblak.

To that end, someone like Cakir, who ought to have his best years ahead of him, is a viable target for Chelsea. As for Liverpool, a potential pursuit of the 24-year-old is somewhat perplexing, seeing as Alisson Becker is firmly established as the Premier League champions’ first-choice goalkeeper.

While Adrian has been linked with a possible move away from Anfield, the Reds still have an able goalkeeper in Caoimhin Kelleher to be the deputy to Alisson. Nevertheless, it looks like Liverpool are continuing to closely monitor Cakir, having previously been linked with him on a few occasions as well.

Apart from Chelsea and Liverpool, fellow Premier League clubs Brighton & Hove Albion and West Bromwich Albion in addition to RB Leipzig and Sevilla will also be scouting Cakir on Saturday. For now, though, it looks like all the aforementioned clubs are simply tracking the Turkish goalkeeper and it remains to be seen if they make a serious offer to sign him come summer.
