Chelsea and Manchester City are reportedly among the clubs that will be vying for the signature of Mahmoud Dahoud this summer.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Mahmoud Dahoud appears to be becoming a highly sought-after figure in the transfer market. Chelsea and Manchester City are leading the race to sign the Borussia Dortmund midfielder, with Tottenham Hotspur and Everton also keeping tabs on him.
Mahmoud Dahoud joined Borussia Dortmund from Borussia Monchengladbach in the summer of 2017 and has since only made gradual progress in his career. With several factors hampering his development, the 25-year-old has managed just 89 appearances till date for the Bundesliga outfit, with 3 goals and 7 assists in those outings.
Ahead of the summer, the German international’s future at the Signal Iduna Park is uncertain, with his current deal having a little over a year left to run out. His situation has piqued the interest of the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City, who are weighing up a possible summer swoop.
At Chelsea, Thomas Tuchel has a number of midfielders at his disposal in N’Golo Kante, Jorginho, Mateo Kovacic and Billy Gilmour, with loanees like Ruben Loftus-Cheek, Ross Barkley and Conor Gallagher also hoping to establish a foothold in the first-team squad at Stamford Bridge next term. However, the future of the loanees is uncertain while Jorginho has been linked with a return to Italy.
As a result, Chelsea are keeping their options open, with Aurilien Tchouameni among those that are being touted as targets. Dahoud, though, is a viable target as well with his ability to reprise different role in midfield. Manchester City, on the other hand, are planning for life without Fernandinho, which is why they are in the market for a midfielder.
To that end, Kays Ruiz-Atil has been targeted as a possible midfield reinforcement, with Dahoud also being an option worth considering for Manchester City. Apart from the Citizens and Chelsea, Everton and Tottenham Hotspur are also a part of the race to sign the 25-year-old from Borussia Dortmund.
However, Chelsea are believed to have the edge over the other suitors, owing to the Thomas Tuchel connection, with the German coach being instrumental in bringing Dahoud to Westfalenstadion, although he had long departed by the time he arrived. Nevertheless, it remains to be seen if the Blues do succeed in snapping him up, or if some other club swoops him away instead.
