Brighton & Hove Albion are reportedly set to sign Adam Lallana on a free transfer when he leaves Liverpool at the end of the season.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Adam Lallana has zeroed in on his next club, when he becomes a free agent after leaving Liverpool at the end of the season. The English midfielder has agreed a three-year deal with Brighton & Hove Albion, with an announcement imminent.
Lallana joined Liverpool in a big move in the summer of 2014 following a stunning 2013/14 campaign with Southampton. The Englishman quickly became a regular at Anfield, particularly impressing Jurgen Klopp upon the manager’s arrival in 2015. However, he was subsequently riddled with major injuries, which have reduced him to a bit-part role at the Merseyside club.
This term, Lallana was a backup option for Klopp once again, but has still produced some positive performances, notably earning Liverpool a crucial draw against bitter rivals Manchester United in the early months of the campaign. However, as the season wore on, it became clear that the 32-year-old was set to become surplus to requirements.
The advent of Curtis Jones this term might have also been a factor in Klopp’s decision. So, after making 178 appearances for Liverpool, Lallana is set to embark on a new challenge. Despite the reduction in his role at Anfield in recent seasons, though, his stock remained quite high, as explained by the interest from Arsenal and Tottenham.
Former Premier League champions Leicester City seemed to be keen as well and were, at one point, touted to be the favourites to sign the former Southampton captain. However, it looks like Brighton are the club who will sign Lallana from Liverpool on a free transfer this summer.
The report suggests that Lallana has already agreed a three-year deal with the Seagulls, whose technical director Dan Ashworth pursued him since January has managed to convince him of their project. On paper, the experienced midfielder is an upgrade on Dale Stephens and Yves Bissouma and could even be an option for the wings.
How Graham Potter utilises the 32-year-old remains to be seen, but an announcement is imminent. As for the player, a mixed bag of a Liverpool stint is ending and after winning four trophies with the Reds, he is now set for a new stage in his career.
