Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to land Coventry City star Sam McCallum, who is also being tailed by Chelsea, Manchester City and more.
A 90min exclusive claims that Liverpool are leading the race for Sam McCallum. The report states that the current Premier League leaders have raced ahead of the likes of Chelsea, Manchester City, Leicester City and more and are the favourites to land the signature of the Coventry City youngster.
Sam McCallum is a product of Jamie Vardy’s V9 academy that was setup by the player in order to help other players follow in his footsteps of living out their footballing dreams. McCallum debuted for Coventry City in League One in 2018-19. But, his appearances for the club this season have been enough for as many as 20 teams to send their scouts to take a closer look.

Leicester City have Ben Chilwell and Christian Fuchs. But, on the one hand, Chilwell is arguably one of the best left-backs in the league right now and is drawing interest from every BIG SIX club. On the other, Fuchs is 33 and will need replacing soon.
Despite the connection to Jamie Vardy, Leicester City have not managed to gain an edge over other suitors for McCallum. Liverpool have a genuine need at left-back, with Andrew Robertson the only quality choice.
James Milner has done a good job whenever called upon in that role but is 33 and will need replacing, especially in the system that Jurgen Klopp deploys, which requires the two full-backs to run up and down the field at all times and be an active part at both ends.
Chelsea have a similar problem at left-back. Emerson Palmieri had impressed enough to be the first-choice under Frank Lampard. But, the Italian and Marcos Alonso are both far from consistent and don’t offer the vibrato needed in that position, especially in a dynamic attacking squad like Chelsea’s.
Manchester City have many left-backs right now, especially after the addition of Angelino in the summer. But, the returning City star and Oleksandr Zinchenko have both only impressed in shades, leaving Benjamin Mendy as the only genuine option for Pep Guardiola.
The report states that Liverpool want to wrap the deal up in January itself, but loan the 19-year-old back to Coventry to allow him to play the remainder of the season with the League One side.
Should this deal go through and McCallum end up at Anfield, Liverpool will have recruited another youngster who could potentially turn out to be a bargain transfer after having brought in Sepp van den Berg and Harvey Elliott during the summer.
