Chelsea have rejected AS Monaco’s proposal to take Tiemoue Bakayoko back to the club on loan as the Blues do not see value in the offer presented.

Chelsea might have had a quiet transfer window owing to their transfer embargo, but are still busy to offload some of their surplus players. There have been a few who left the club recently, but a deal to send Tiemoue Bakayoko away has run into problems. According to RMC Sport, Chelsea have rejected Monaco’s offer to take Bakayoko on a loan deal citing the value of the entire proposition.

Chelsea’s transfer business led by Marina Granovskaia have ensured some of the surplus players have been shifted off the wage bill. Bakayoko went to AC Milan last summer under her supervision. However, due to Milan’s failure to qualify for this season’s Champions League, they were unable to exercise a permanent purchase option on the midfielder.

Bakayoko himself does not seem keen to re-join Milan and is looking for an opportunity elsewhere. New manager Frank Lampard does not want Bakayoko at the club as he already has plenty of midfield options at his disposal. Bakayoko was hence linked with several clubs including PSG during the summer window.

PSG effectively ruled out a move after signing Everton’s Idrissa Gueye, while there was interest from Galatasaray in Turkey, where the player does not want to go. That leaves Monaco as the only club in the running for his signature, as the former Ligue-1 champions look to bring a player back who was successful at the club.

However, Granovskaia does not feel Monaco are the right choice to protect the value of the player as the French side have been on the decline in the last two seasons. Granvoskaia wants players to leave the club but only for teams that will offer good prospects for them, which in turn will protect the players’ market value.

The examples could be Davide Zappacosta, who joined Roma recently on loan and also that of Danny Drinkwater who teamed up with Burnley for the season. All those players, including Bakayoko, cost Chelsea good amounts of money, and Granovskaia wants to protect the value to sell them off next summer or in the immediate future.

Chelsea, on the other hand, are looking to recoup as much of the £40 million they paid for Bakayoko two seasons ago. So far none of the offers have been convincing the Blues to do business.

The European transfer deadline still has some time to go, and there is a belief that Chelsea might be able to find an agreement with clubs to offload Bakayoko. As for Bakayoko, he is unwanted at Stamford Bridge, and this could help him accelerate the process with his entourage to find a viable club in the next few days. It could be Monaco or some other club altogether.
