Arsenal midfielder Aaron Ramsey has reportedly signed a pre-contract agreement with Juventus, snubbing Chelsea in the process.
According to a report by Italian outlet Sportmediaset, Aaron Ramsey has inched closer to joining Juventus in next summer’s transfer window after signing a pre-contract agreement over a five-year €5 million-a-year deal. The Arsenal superstar has also been linked with Premier League rivals Chelsea.
Ramsey has been quite an asset for Arsenal over his near 11-year association with the Gunners. But, as the months have passed this season, it has become abundantly clear that the Welshman’s journey at the club will end, with the North Londoners choosing not to offer an extension on a deal that will end next summer.
With the player having no future at Arsenal, the speculation surrounding his future has been about his next destination, with a bevy of big-name clubs rumoured to be interested in signing him, including Chelsea and Juventus.
Maurizio Sarri has iterated the need to bolster his side’s attack. But, midfield could be in need of some reinforcements as well, especially if Mateo Kovacic’s deal is not converted into a permanent one next summer. Ramsey is thus, a viable target for Chelsea, who could land a player with more than a decade of Premier League experience.
But, Chelsea are not alone in pursuit of the 28-year-old, with Juventus leading a number of foreign clubs that have been intending to negotiate a pre-contract with him this month, something that English clubs cannot.
At the Allianz Stadium, Ramsey can bring a set of qualities that none of the midfielders at Massimiliano Allegri’s disposal possess. His ability to advance forward and provide a creative and goalscoring threat potentially makes the player an ideal foil for the likes of Miralem Pjanic and Cristiano Ronaldo.
And, Juventus seem to have usurped Chelsea and several other clubs in the race to sign Ramsey, having agreed a pre-contract with him, as per the report. The Welsh international is expected to sign a five-year deal worth €5 million per year, with the announcement set to be made sometime next month.
The likes of Bayern Munich and PSG, in addition to Chelsea, look to be beaten in pursuit of Aaron Ramsey, who was unlikely to sign a deal with the Blues anyway, having insisted that he would only join a foreign club. Juventus seem to be that foreign club, as the player’s journey at Arsenal looks to be nearing its end.
