Leroy Sane has tipped Chelsea to be the biggest challengers to Manchester City for the Premier League title in the 2018-19 season

As reported by The Sun, Leroy Sane has picked Chelsea to be the fiercest rivals to Manchester City in the race to win the Premier League title in the 2018-19 season. The Citizens are defending English champions after romping home to the title last season in record breaking fashion.

Manchester City are the team to beat heading into the 2018-19 season. Pep Guardiola’s men were on a completely different level altogether last term as they became the first side to break the 100-point mark in the Premier League while also setting a number of records along the way.

The nearest challengers to the Citizens were bitter local rivals Manchester United, who trailed Guardiola & co. by a staggering 19 points in the final tally. Tottenham and Liverpool had completed the top four, while the fallen champions Chelsea were a massive 30 points adrift.

The Blues have the exhausting Thursday-Sunday European schedule to look forward to. But, German international Leroy Sane has named Chelsea as the likeliest outfit to challenge Manchester City for the 2018-19 Premier League title, citing Maurizio Sarri as the game changer for the West Londoners.

“I think Chelsea because they have brought a really good coach. If you have seen how Napoli played last season, it was really, really attractive and really good. We suffered against them. They could be really tough.”

Chelsea indeed look like a strong squad at the present moment, with Jorginho’s signing and Daniele Rugani reportedly poised to join the Blues as well. At the same time though, Sarri finds himself in a precarious position, with the likes of Willian, Eden Hazard and Thibaut Courtois heavily linked with moves away from Stamford Bridge.

If they do manage to keep hold of the unsettled trio, the Chelsea boss will have a squad that has the potential to challenge Manchester City for the title, considering several players have prior experience of winning big trophies.

Liverpool have also been tipped by many to be the biggest challengers to Manchester City after a strengthening key areas in the summer transfer window. And, despite a frustrating window for them, Manchester United and Tottenham will likely pose a big threat as well, while Arsenal have also made major improvements to their squad.

All in all, an exciting 2018-19 season seems to be on the cards. But, if Chelsea manage to somehow retain Courtois, Hazard and Willian, they could potentially have the means to trouble Manchester City the most in the upcoming campaign. A hotly contested campaign beckons.
