Atletico Madrid are reportedly targeting to land Chelsea superstar Oliver Giroud on a loan deal from Stamford Bridge this summer, but the Blues fancy a permanent deal with the Spanish giants.

According to a report published by the SkySports, Atletico Madrid are planning to land Oliver Giroud on a season-long loan deal with an option of a permanent move from Chelsea this summer. But, Chelsea are reportedly fancying to make a permanent transfer deal with the Spanish giants.

Giroud played a pivotal role in France’s historic triumph of FIFA World Cup 2018 in Russia, although he failed to find the net in all of his seven appearances, Didier Deschamps kept faith in him throughout the competition.

Chelsea signed Giroud in the January transfer window as an auxiliary option after Morata failed to make an impact for the Blues. He bagged 3 goals and 1 assist in 13 appearances for the Blues in the Premier League after joining from city rivals Arsenal.

Meanwhile, Atletico Madrid were pursuing the Croation striker Nikola Kalinic from AC Milan, but it seems the negotiations have fallen through as the Italian club are delaying to respond to the interest of Los Rojiblancos. Thus, the Spanish giants have set their eyes on the 31-year-old striker.

However, Giroud has not even spent more than six months at Chelsea, and it is still unknown whether Maurizio Sarri is willing to let him go or has plans for the French international for the upcoming season. But, the World Cup-winning forward has piqued interests of Atletico Madrid over the summer, as they are looking to secure a deal immediately.

Although, the report further claims that Chelsea have made initial contact with Juventus with the purpose of signing Gonzalo Higuain. Newly appointed manager Maurizio Sarri was pivotal in the revival of Higuain’s career at Napoli before the striker joined Juventus in 2016. Hence indicating that Sarri is keen to reunite with the 30-year-old striker at Stamford Bridge.

Thus, Giroud’s departure depends a lot on the success of the pursuit by Chelsea to land Higuain from the Allianz Stadium. Still, Chelsea are ready to negotiate with Atletico Madrid for the player but wanting to sell him on a permanent transfer deal to Diego Simeone’s side.
