Gianluigi Donnarumma has put European giants Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus on alert, after stalling his contract negotiations with AC Milan.
The Sun have reported that Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United, as well as Italian giants Juventus have been put on red alert as Gianluigi Donnarumma’s agent Mino Raiola has stalled his contract negotiations with AC Milan.
Gianluigi Donnarumma has taken European football by storm, that too at the tender age of 17. The teenage sensation has already established himself as a regular at AC Milan, and is regarded as one of the most prodigious talents in world football.
Donnarumma has risen through the ranks at Milan, where he impressed his coaches so much that he made his first team debut as a 16-year-old. A year has since passed and he has already notched up more than 50 appearances for the Rossoneri, keeping 18 clean sheets in these games.
This season, Donnarumma has impressed yet again and it looks like he is improving himself with each passing game. Thus far in the current campaign, the 17-year-old has featured in every single minute in Serie A for Milan keeping 8 clean sheets.
At the national level, Donnarumma has risen as the legendary Gianluigi Buffon’s protege and the coaches view the youngster as Buffon’s long-term successor, as he continues to learn and grow under the Juventus man’s tutelage.
His exploits between the posts has not gone unnoticed either, as Donnarumma has been heavily linked with a move away from San Siro, with clubs like Manchester City, Real Madrid and Barcelona rumoured to have been monitoring the youngster’s progress.
While their interest seems to have fizzled out lately, three other giants of European football have now entered the picture, as per the report. Chelsea, Manchester United and Juventus have been long-time admirers of Donnarumma’s talents and they have now been put on alert after latest developments in Milan.
Mino Raiola, Donnarumma’s agent, has stalled the young Italian’s contract negotiations with AC Milan. With the club in the middle of a takeover by Chinese investors, Raiola has refused to discuss his client’s contract until the deal is complete.
Once the takeover has been completed, it is understood that the super agent is ready to hold out for a four-year contract with a bumper pay raise to £165,000-a-week. It has also been reported that Milan are highly unlikely to agree to his demands, which could put Donnarumma on the verge of a move away from the club.
Juventus, understandably, look at Donnarumma as a long-term successor to club captain Buffon, just like the Italian national team, with the legendary goalkeeper gradually nearing the end of his storied career.
On the other hand, the interest from Manchester United and Chelsea has been sparked by Real Madrid’s reported summer raid on the two English heavyweights, with both David De Gea and Thibaut Courtois on Los Blancos’ radar.
If either of the two goalkeepers make a move to the Santiago Bernabeu, we could very well be braced to see them indulge in a bidding war with Juve. As of now, it looks increasingly likely that, sooner or later, Donnarumma will be moving away from San Siro to another European giant.
