Chelsea are planning an ambitious £75 million swoop for Bayern Munich forward Thomas Muller if Diego Costa forces a move away from the club.

The Daily Express report that Chelsea have identified Diego Costa’s replacement, should the wantaway Spain striker force a move away from Stamford Bridge, with the Blues planning an ambitious £75 million bid for unsettled Bayern Munich star Thomas Muller.

Germany international Thomas Muller is going through an uncharacteristically mediocre season at the Allianz Arena, and has failed to work his usual magic in the attack for Bayern Munich thus far this season.

One of the first names on the team sheet for the Bavarians before this season, Muller hasn’t really been a regular under new manager Carlo Ancelotti. So far, he has managed to start just 16 of the 24 games that Bayern have played in all competitions, scoring a paltry three goals.

Last week, Muller admitted that he was growing frustrated at the lack of game time coming his way under Ancelotti, sparking widespread speculation that the Bayern Munich star was unsettled at the club and could be on his way out soon.

The Express report now states that Chelsea have identified Muller as the perfect replacement for their own star striker Diego Costa, who has reportedly grown unsettled at the West London club.

Chelsea are in a precarious state when it comes to Diego Costa, with the Premier League’s joint top scorer reportedly getting involved in a bust-up with manager Antonio Conte. The Blues boss has since insisted that Costa missed Chelsea’s game against Leicester City due to an injury, but rumours of his exit continue to float in.

Costa has fired on all cylinders for Chelsea this season, scoring 14 goals in 19 appearances for the Blues in the Premier League to be the joint top scorer in the league alongside Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Alexis Sanchez.

Having scored several match winnings goals so far in the season, his value to the runaway Premier League leaders is immense. Muller will not be a like for like replacement for the Spaniard, but the German represents a great option for Chelsea to consider, given his goalscoring prowess.

It all depends on Costa’s situation getting resolved at Stamford Bridge for now, and it will be interesting to see whether the striker is able to mend fences with Conte and make a return to the Chelsea lineup anytime soon.
