West Ham overcame their London rivals Chelsea in the Round of 16 tie of the EFL Cup to advance to the quarter finals of the knockout cup thanks to goals from Kouyate and Fernandes.

Gary Cahill pulled one back in the dying moments of the game but it turned out be nothing more than a consolation as the Hammers recorded a deserving victory in their new stadium, a result which could very well prove to be the turning point of their season.

The highlight of the game were the two Hammers goals. While Kouyate’s effort was a brilliant piece of heading technique, Fernandes flew in from the full-back position and released an absolutely wonderful shot that sizzled past Begovic into the bottom corner.
