Chelsea considering Aaron Bouwman swoop

Chelsea will reportedly look to sign 17-year-old Dutch defensive wonderkid Aaron Bouwman from Ajax in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Football Insider, Aaron Bouwman is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The Blues are keen on reinforcing their defensive unit further by signing a promising centre-back in the summer transfer window. So, the 17-year-old Ajax wonderkid has emerged as a target for the West London club.

The FIFA Club World Cup winners have recently scouted the teenage sensation, watching him in Ajax’s pre-season friendly against Celtic. The youngster may be an option for Chelsea after losing Levi Colwill to a long-term knee injury earlier this week.

Who is Aaron Bouwman?

Aaron Bouwman is the latest highly-rated wonderkid to rise in prominence in his homeland. A native of Haarlem, the 17-year-old has passed through the academies at DSS, Koninklijke HFC, and Ajax. The young defensive wonderkid currently represents the under-21 team at Ajax, but he has yet to make his senior bow for the Eredivisie giants.

Meanwhile, even though Bouwman has yet to make his senior bow for Ajax, his stock in the market is high, and a move to the Premier League may be on the cards. Chelsea will be among the prospective suitors vying for the Dutch defensive prodigy’s signature in the summer transfer window.

London calling?

Chelsea’s interest in Aaron Bouwman is understandable. The Blues are scouring the market for a centre-back this summer after losing Levi Colwill to a long-term knee injury that will keep him on the sidelines for most of the 2025/26 season. Enzo Maresca has already confirmed that Chelsea will prioritise signing a centre-back in the summer transfer window.

Several candidates, including Ronald Araujo, have emerged on Chelsea’s radar, with Bouwman also a viable target. The teenage sensation can be a solution at the heart of the defence for the West London club for over a decade, even though he will unlikely be a first-choice starter from the get-go.

Meanwhile, it is unclear how much Ajax will demand to part ways with the 17-year-old Dutch defensive wonderkid in the summer transfer window. However, a move to Chelsea may be on the cards for the highly-rated centre-back.
