Aston Villa and Donyell Malen reportedly have a verbal agreement regarding a winter move, with Bundesliga giants Borussia Dortmund demanding €30 million to sell him.
According to a report by Bild, as relayed by Sport Witness, Donyell Malen is a step closer to joining Aston Villa. The Villans have secured a verbal agreement with the Borussia Dortmund attacker. Meanwhile, the Bundesliga giants are demanding around €30 million to part ways with the 41-cap Netherlands international, with the two clubs likely to strike a deal.
Donyell Malen and his inconsistencies
Donyell Malen has blown hot and cold since joining Borussia Dortmund from PSV Eindhoven in July 2021. The Dutchman arrived at Signal Iduna Park amid hype and fanfare surrounding him. However, he has struggled to stamp his authority while only producing flashes of brilliance in the last three and a half years.
The 25-year-old has fallen in the pecking order this season, not even managing 1,000 minutes of game time in his 20 appearances across all competitions while chipping in with five goals and one assist. However, that has not impacted the Dutch attacker’s stock in the market.
Widespread reports have linked the 41-cap Netherlands international with several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Barcelona. However, Malen’s next destination might be the Premier League, with Aston Villa pushing hard to secure his services this year.
Premier League adventure beckoning?
Aston Villa’s interest in Donyell Malen is understandable. The Villans have been scouring the market for a versatile attacker heading into the winter transfer window. While Morgan Rogers and Leon Bailey have done well for the West Midlands outfit, Unai Emery wants more firepower in the final third.
So, Malen has emerged as a viable target for Aston Villa, with the Premier League club striking a verbal agreement with the Dutchman. Meanwhile, Borussia Dortmund will demand around €30 million to part ways with the 41-cap Netherlands international.
The report has claimed that an agreement between Borussia Dortmund and Aston Villa should come soon, even though the West Midlands club’s initial offer was worth €18 million. It will be interesting to see if Aston Villa will match the Bundesliga club’s asking price of €30 million to seal the deal for the 25-year-old Dutch attacker.
