Jonathan Tah will cost €15 million in January amid exit links

Bayer Leverkusen will reportedly demand €15 million to part ways with Jonathan Tah in the January transfer window amid his links with Barcelona and Real Madrid.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Barcelona and Real Madrid are vying for the signature of Jonathan Tah ahead of the two transfer windows next year. Bayer Leverkusen will demand around €15 million to part ways with the 28-year-old soon-to-be-free centre-back in the January transfer window.

Jonathan Tah and his renaissance

Jonathan Tah has made considerable progress in the last few years. While the former Hamburger SV defender is a veteran of the Bundesliga, he was not consistent for several seasons despite showing flashes of his brilliance. However, that has changed under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.

The Spanish tactician has overseen a transformational effect on many players during his reign at the BayArena, with Tah among those to improve in the last two years significantly. The 28-year-old has turned out over 350 times thus far for Bayer Leverkusen while chipping in with 15 goals and 12 assists.

The German international was instrumental in Die Werkself winning the Bundesliga title last season without losing a game. However, Tah’s spell with Bayer Leverkusen will end next year, with the situation capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Real Madrid and Barcelona.

La Liga move on the cards?

Barcelona mulled over signing Jonathan Tah in a cut-price move in the summer transfer window before the move did not see the light of day. The continued interest is understandable, considering the Bayer Leverkusen defender is at the peak of his powers. In addition, Barcelona can get a world-class defender for free, making him a solid short-term replacement for Inigo Martinez if the Spaniard’s levels decline.

As for Real Madrid, Los Blancos might launch the offensive to sign Tah in the January transfer window. While the reigning La Liga champions seldom complete winter signings, Eder Militao’s season-ending knee injury has forced their hand. So, the German international has emerged as a viable target, with Real Madrid learning Bayer Leverkusen’s asking price.

The Bundesliga champions want around €15 million to part ways with the 28-year-old soon-to-be-free centre-back. The asking price seems fair, although Real Madrid could force Barcelona’s hand if they want to secure Tah’s services in the January transfer window.
