Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has dealt a blow to Liverpool’s prospects of signing him as he is close to signing a new contract with Serie A club Napoli.
According to a report by The Star, as relayed by Paisley Gates, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds have been considering a late move for the Napoli attacker heading into the final week of the summer transfer window. However, the 23-year-old is close to signing a new contract with the Serie A club, thus dealing a blow to Liverpool’s hopes.
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia and his Napoli journey so far
Khvicha Kvaratskhelia has been one of the best players in Serie A since joining Liverpool from Dinamo Batumi in July 2022. The 33-cap Georgian international arrived at the Diego Armando Maradona Stadium with a lot of hype around him after taking club football by storm in his early years.
The 23-year-old hit the ground running at Napoli, playing his part as the Partenopei ended a wait of over three decades to win the Serie A title in the 2022/23 season. However, Kvaratskhelia endured a torrid 2023/24 campaign, with Napoli meekly surrendering the Scudetto and finishing tenth on the table.
But the player has been hot off the blocks in the 2024/25 season, scoring once and providing one assist in two Serie A outings thus far, showing signs that he might be back to his best. Meanwhile, Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s progress at Napoli has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several high-profile clubs across Europe, including Liverpool.
Premier League beckons?
Liverpool’s interest in Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is understandable. The Reds are in a spot of bother over the long-term futures of Mohamed Salah and Darwin Nunez. While the Napoli attacker will not be a like-for-like replacement for either player, he can take up the left-wing spot, with Luis Diaz shifting to the right flank.
So, Kvaratskhelia is a viable target for Liverpool, even though a late move would be difficult to execute. However, the 23-year-old has dealt a blow to the Merseyside club’s hopes of signing him as he is close to signing a new contract with Napoli.
In addition, the Serie A giants have not been open to parting ways with the 33-cap Georgian international. So, securing Khvicha Kvaratskhelia’s services with a late move was always going to be a tall order for Liverpool, and a deal will not see the light of day.
