Andriy Lunin has agreed to sign a new contract with Real Madrid that will last until June 30, 2029, although a summer exit is still possible.
According to a report by Spanish journalists Manuel Amor and Alfredo Matilla, Andriy Lunin will sign a new contract with Real Madrid in the coming days, with the deal lasting until June 30, 2029. However, the newly-crowned La Liga champions are not ruling out a summer departure for the resurgent 25-year-old goalkeeper.
Andriy Lunin and his resurgence
Andriy Lunin spent most of his Real Madrid career in frustration after arriving from Zorya Luhansk in July 2018. The Ukrainian international was a highly-rated prospect when he joined Los Blancos half a dozen years ago. However, he had to bide his time until Thibaut Courtois picked up a long-term injury to secure regular game time at the Santiago Bernabeu.
2023/24 was initially shaping up to be another frustrating campaign for Lunin, with Kepa Arrizabalaga becoming the first-choice goalkeeper for Real Madrid after arriving on a season-long loan deal from Chelsea. However, an untimely injury to the Spanish international helped Lunin establish a foothold, and he has not looked back since then.
The 25-year-old has turned out 30 times thus far this season, keeping 12 clean sheets and conceding only 28 goals. However, Lunin’s future has been the subject of concern for Real Madrid, as he will enter the final 12 months of his contract on July 1. Such a situation has captured the attention of several high-profile clubs, including Manchester United.
What next?
Amid links with several European bigwigs, Andriy Lunin has been ready to commit his future to Real Madrid by signing a new contract. That appears to be on the cards, with Real Madrid and the Ukrainian international sealing an agreement over fresh terms.
The resurgent 25-year-old goalkeeper will sign a new contract with Real Madrid that will last until June 30, 2029. However, a summer sale is not out of the question yet despite the looming announcement of the renewal.
While Lunin’s new contract will not expire for five years, Real Madrid and the player are aware that the offers will not stop coming heading into the summer transfer window. So, both parties are keeping their options open, even though the renewal is on the cards.
