West Ham United have reportedly intensified their efforts to sign Union Saint-Gilloise striker Mohamed Amoura, a target for Tottenham.
According to a report by Belgian outlet Walfoot, West Ham United and Tottenham Hotspur are vying for the signature of Mohamed Amoura. Union Saint-Gilloise will demand around €20 million to part ways with the 23-year-old striker. Meanwhile, the Hammers have ramped up their efforts to sign the player.
Mohamed Amoura and his claim to fame
Mohamed Amoura has gone from strength to strength since joining Union Saint-Gilloise from FC Lugano last summer. The Algerian international had big shoes to fill at the Belgian club after the departure of Victor Boniface. And he has done a remarkable job to become a pivotal figure at Stade Joseph Marien.
The 23-year-old has been prolific in the final third, amassing 22 goals and six assists in 40 appearances across all competitions. Meanwhile, Amoura’s progress at Union Saint-Gilloise has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several well-known clubs across Europe.
A move to the Premier League might be on the cards, with Tottenham Hotspur and West Ham United vying for his signature. Recent reports had pointed to Tottenham being in the pole position in the race to sign the former FC Lugano striker. However, the Hammers have stepped up their interest in him.
London calling?
Tottenham’s interest in Mohamed Amoura is understandable. The North London club did not sign a prolific striker to replace Harry Kane when the English international moved to Bayern Munich last summer. While Son Heung-min has stepped up well, Tottenham can do with a recognised striker, making the Union Saint-Gilloise striker a viable target.
As for West Ham, they need to sign a top-class striker in the summer transfer window. Michail Antonio and Danny Ings are on the wrong side of 30, with the latter not a dependable figure for the East London club. Amoura is thus an option worth considering, with the Hammers “redoubling” their efforts to sign him.
While Tottenham might be a more attractive destination, West Ham will likely offer Amoura more game time. It will be interesting to see where the 23-year-old Algerian international lands in the summer transfer window.
