PSG keen on signing Frenkie de Jong

PSG will reportedly look to complete a raid on Barcelona for Frenkie de Jong in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Frenkie de Jong is the subject of interest from Paris Saint-Germain. The Ligue 1 champions are in the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. And they have set their sights on the 26-year-old Barcelona midfield metronome.

Frenkie de Jong and his Barcelona journey

Frenkie de Jong has been among the best midfielders in the world since joining Barcelona from Ajax in a deal worth €75 million in July 2019. The Dutchman has been arguably the best and most reliable performer for the Blaugrana in the last half a decade, making his mark even when there has been speculation surrounding his future.

The last two summer transfer windows have brought widespread links surrounding de Jong’s future. Premier League bigwigs, in particular, have been keen on signing the 26-year-old, with Chelsea and Manchester United still interested in signing him heading into this year’s summer transfer window.

The Dutch midfield metronome has turned out over 200 times thus far for Barcelona, chipping in with 17 goals and 21 assists. However, the Barcelona mainstay is attracting interest from a high-profile club again, with Paris Saint-Germain keen on signing him in the summer transfer window.

PSG want de Jong

PSG’s interest in Frenkie de Jong is understandable. The Ligue 1 champions are scouring the market for a midfielder heading into the summer transfer window. While they have heavily invested in the midfield department in the last few windows, there are hardly any match-winners in the squad.

Several candidates, including Gavi, have thus emerged on PSG’s radar. However, the 19-year-old Spanish international does not want to leave Barcelona as he is happy at the Catalan club. His Barcelona teammate is thus a viable target for PSG heading into the summer transfer window. However, a move will unlikely materialise in the coming months.

The Dutch midfield metronome is reportedly not interested in leaving Barcelona anytime soon as he is happy and content at the club. So, PSG will have to look elsewhere to bolster the midfield department, with the signing unlikely to come from Barcelona.
