Manchester United are reportedly interested in signing Real Madrid’s backup striker Joselu in the summer transfer window.
According to a report by Give Me Sport, Joselu is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The Red Devils are scouring the market for a striker who can compete with Rasmus Hojlund. The Real Madrid striker has thus emerged as a viable target, with Los Blancos yet to exercise the option to permanently sign him from Espanyol in the summer transfer window.
The Joselu Resurgence
Joselu has resurrected his career and taken it to new heights since returning to Spain from England in July 2019. The veteran striker was floundering in his career after stints in Germany and England. But the move to Deportivo Alaves reinvigorated him before he scaled new heights at RCD Espanyol.
While Espanyol endured a horrendous 2022/23 campaign, the Spaniard was a rare bright spot and ended the season as one of the top scorers in La Liga. The 34-year-old subsequently earned a move to Real Madrid, with Los Blancos signing him on loan from Espanyol in last summer’s transfer window.
While the Spanish international has been a backup option for Carlo Ancelotti, he has made his mark for Real Madrid. The experienced attacker has amassed 13 goals and three assists in 1,600 minutes of game time across 38 appearances thus far this term. Joselu’s progress this season has not gone unnoticed.
What Next?
Real Madrid will likely exercise the purchase option to complete a permanent move for Joselu in the summer transfer window. But the Spaniard has also piqued the interest of another high-profile club, with Manchester United considering securing his services.
Manchester United’s interest in landing Joselu’s signature in the summer transfer window is understandable. The Premier League club will likely part ways with Anthony Martial this summer, meaning Rasmus Hojlund will be the only recognised striker in the squad. So, the Real Madrid backup star is a viable target for Manchester United.
But Joselu wants to remain with Real Madrid beyond the summer transfer window. While Kylian Mbappe’s potential move and Endrick’s impending arrival can hamper his game time, the Spanish international is unperturbed and wants a permanent move to Real Madrid. So, Manchester United might have to look elsewhere for a striker.
