Bayern Munich have overtaken Tottenham in the race for Radu Dragusin after making an offer close to Genoa’s asking price.
According to Tutto Mercato Web, Bayern Munich may have overtaken Tottenham in the race for Radu Dragusin. The Bavarians have reportedly made a €24 million offer plus an additional €6 million in bonuses, which comes closest to Genoa’s €30 million asking price.
Are Bayern Munich leading the race for Dragusin?
As per the report, it appears like Bayern Munich have entered the race for Radu Dragusin and may have taken the lead over Tottenham. Spurs were keen to wrap up a deal early for the Genoa defender, but their offer never came close to the Italian side’s asking price.
Genoa wanted €30 million, including bonuses, with Bayern now reportedly offering €24 million plus €6 million in achievable bonuses. The report states the add-ons are based on appearances and Champions League qualifications, which the Bavarians do each season.
Hence, Bayern may have the upper hand in the hunt for the €30 million-rated defender as things stand. Things could still change, but the Bavarians are intent on signing a new defender, having seen links to many players, including some high-profile ones.
Eric Dier became the latest star linked, while there have been rumours about moves for Raphael Varane and Ronald Araujo. However, with Dragusin, they might feel the need to add young stars to their squad, with the Genoa star attracting interest from plenty of other clubs as well.
Are Tottenham out of the Dragusin race?
When the January window opened, Tottenham’s imminent move for Dragusin made headlines. Spurs were advancing in their talks with Genoa, and it did feel like Ange Postecoglou might get his man. However, there have been plenty of twists and turns, including Napoli’s potential interest in the Romanian.
Dragusin was reportedly open to joining Napoli, which may have come as the first blow for Spurs. Then the Bayern interest now will make Tottenham feel like second-favourites for the €30 million-rated defender.
Yet, there’s still hope for Spurs to conjure up a counter to match or improve Bayern’s offer for Dragusin. As things stand, the Bavarians clearly have the upper hand in this deal, as Tottenham must make an even better offer to force Genoa’s hand, but eventually, things will depend on the player’s preference as well.
