Manchester United set sights on Johan Bakayoko

Manchester United have reportedly set their sights on 20-year-old Belgian winger Johan Bakayoko due to his exploits for PSV Eindhoven.

According to Christopher Michel, Johan Bakayoko is the subject of interest from Manchester United. The 20-year-old winger has impressed the decision-makers at the Premier League club. So, a move in the 2024 summer transfer window might be on the cards as the Red Devils seek a long-term right-wing solution.

Who is Johan Bakayoko?

Johan Bakayoko is one of the best young wingers in the world. The Belgian international spent most of his formative years in his homeland, turning out for OH Leuven, Club Brugge, KV Mechelen, and Anderlecht. But he has come leaps and bounds since arriving in the Netherlands, joining PSV Eindhoven in 2019.

The 20-year-old broke into the first-team squad at PSV Eindhoven in the 2021/22 season and has become a mainstay in the final third since then. Bakayoko has enjoyed an excellent 2023/24 campaign thus far, contributing to 17 goals. He has amassed four goals and 13 assists in 27 appearances thus far.

Bakayoko’s performances have gone a long way in helping PSV enjoy a dominant start to the Eredivisie campaign, winning all 16 games thus far. The youngster’s progress at the Philips Stadion has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of high-profile clubs like Liverpool. But the player has also emerged as a target for Manchester United.

Manchester United Keen on Johan Bakayoko

The right-wing berth has been a long-term problem area for Manchester United. They hoped for Jadon Sancho and Antony to stamp their authority at Old Trafford. But neither player has been impressive thus far in their respective stints with Manchester United.

So, it is hardly surprising that Johan Bakayoko has emerged on Manchester United’s radar. The 20-year-old Belgian winger is a creative wizard who creates a tonne of chances in the final third. In addition, the PSV Eindhoven attacker can regularly chip in with goals.

A move in the January transfer window will be improbable, considering PSV Eindhoven’s title prospects in the Eredivisie. But it will not be surprising if a transfer to Manchester United sees the light of day in the 2024 summer transfer window.
