Liverpool considering January move for Jonathan Tah

Liverpool might look to sign 27-year-old German centre-back Jonathan Tah from Bayer Leverkusen in the January transfer window.

According to a report by 90min, Jonathan Tah is the subject of interest from Liverpool. The Reds are in the market for a centre-back heading into the January transfer window after losing Joel Matip to a season-ending injury. And they are hopeful of sealing the deal to sign the 27-year-old Bayer Leverkusen defender.

Jonathan Tah is a native of Hamburg and spent his formative years in his hometown. He graduated from Hamburger SV’s youth division over a decade ago and gradually grew in stature at the club. But his stock has soared since joining Bayer Leverkusen in July 2015.

The 27-year-old has been a mainstay at the back for Bayer Leverkusen in the last eight years. Tah has turned out 324 times thus far for Die Werkself while making over 250 Bundesliga appearances in his career. The German international’s performances have improved under the tutelage of Xabi Alonso.

Tah’s improved displays have not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of many high-profile clubs, especially in the Premier League. Chelsea, Manchester United, and Newcastle United are interested in the Bayer Leverkusen defender, with Liverpool joining the race to sign him.

The Reds will dip their toes in the market for a centre-back in the January transfer window. While they initially planned to sign a defender in the 2024 summer transfer window. But Joel Matip has forced Liverpool to consider signing a centre-back this winter. Jonathan Tah has thus emerged as a viable target for Liverpool.

The 27-year-old centre-back has grown in stature this year, and he should be a seamless addition to the Liverpool backline. The report claims that the Reds are confident they will succeed in sealing the deal to sign him. But Bayer Leverkusen might resist the temptation of cashing in on him.

Recent reports have claimed that Tah might leave Bayer Leverkusen in 2024. So, a move to Liverpool might be on the cards if the Reds present an offer to him next year. It will be interesting to see if Liverpool can seal the deal to sign the 27-year-old centre-back.
