Fabrizio Romano has claimed that Jonathan Tah could leave Bayer Leverkusen in 2024, thus boosting Manchester United and Newcastle United’s chances.

According to Caught Offside via Fabrizio Romano, Jonathan Tah could become available for sale in 2024, thus boosting Manchester United and Newcastle United’s chances. The Premier League giants are two of the teams chasing the 27-year-old German international, who has impressed at Bayer Leverkusen.

Jonathan Tah has been one of Xabi Alonso’s key performers this season, as Bayer Leverkusen sit on top of the Bundesliga standings. The 27-year-old German international has produced some notable displays that could see him compete for a place in the national side ahead of the Euros.

Despite some notable clubs enquiring about the defender, Bayer Leverkusen were not totally open to selling, not at the prices offered around. Alonso will have thanked his stars for seeing the 27-year-old perform as he has done, although the future looks different.

Tah will also ponder making a big switch, probably to the Premier League in the future, and he is at the right age to help out a big team. He would consider offers that let him become a main defender in a team, with Manchester United and Newcastle United keen on signing him.

The Premier League giants are definitely in the market for a new centre-back ahead of the January transfer window. There are many names thrown around in the media, especially for Newcastle United, who have a depth issue at the back.

They have already made an offer for Radu Dragusin but could also consider Tah as an option if any deal seems feasible. Manchester United’s interest also seems genuine at this stage; they are also in the market for a centre-back, with the future of Raphael Varane looking bleak ahead of January.

Jean-Clair Todibo remains a target for Manchester United, but they might look at Tah if he is available. As per Fabrizio Romano, the 27-year-old German international could leave in 2024, although it’s unclear whether Alonso would sanction a sale in January.

Romano said, “I’d keep an eye on Premier League clubs for Jonathan Tah. He’s under contract until 2025 at Bayer and sources tell me he could leave in 2024. He’s doing great; I can’t share info on precise club yet but there’s interest from Premier League.”

Romano also insisted Tah had an €18 million release clause back in the summer, and whether that still stands also remains the question. The 27-year-old’s current deal ends in 2025, meaning Leverkusen would look for a significant offer in the coming windows.

If Tah becomes available for a decent fee and makes known his preference to move in January, then the Premier League giants might try to do a deal. However, the chances of Bayer Leverkusen selling their key player are a bit slim, considering they have positioned themselves well for the Bundesliga title challenge this season.
