Barcelona retain interest in Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot

Barcelona will reportedly look to complete a Bosman move to sign 28-year-old Juventus midfielder Adrien Rabiot next summer.

According to a report by Spanish outlet Fichajes, Adrien Rabiot is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The World Cup finalist is in the final year of his contract with Juventus. So, the reigning La Liga champions are considering a Bosman move for the 28-year-old in the 2024 summer transfer window.

Adrien Rabiot has had a bizarre professional career at the club level thus far. The Frenchman was one of the best young midfielders during his stint with Paris Saint-Germain, where he became a mainstay in the middle of the park. But his spell at Parc des Princes ended in acrimony before he left as a free agent in July 2019.

Several high-profile clubs, including Barcelona, were keen on signing the 28-year-old on a free transfer. But Juventus won the race to secure Rabiot’s services, with the player enjoying a solid stint thus far. While he has had his highs and lows at the Allianz Stadium, he has become a pivotal figure since last season.

The French international has turned out 183 times thus far for Juventus, chipping in with 18 goals and 14 assists. But the Serie A giants are in a spot of bother over Rabiot’s long-term future, as he is in the final year of his contract. Interestingly, they were in a similar predicament this past summer before the player signed a one-year contract.

Rabiot’s situation has not gone unnoticed, capturing the attention of several Premier League bigwigs. In addition, Barcelona might be a part of the race to sign him in a Bosman move next summer.

Barcelona can do with a player of Rabiot’s qualities, considering he can reprise any role in the middle of the park. The 28-year-old World Cup finalist can thus become an asset for Barcelona, considering summer signings Oriol Romeu and Ilkay Gundogan will only be short-term additions.

But Rabiot’s impending status as a free agent will create an intense competition for his signature. So, Barcelona will have to move quickly and try to tie the French international to a pre-contract agreement in January.
