Federico Dimarco opens up on Inter Milan future amid Chelsea, Manchester City interest

Inter Milan defender Federico Dimarco has been linked with a move to Chelsea and Manchester City in recent weeks.

As quoted by 90min Federico Dimarco is now keen on signing a new contract with Inter Milan. The development will come as a major blow for Chelsea and Manchester City. The Italian international has been a key player for the Nerazzurri, and he helped them reach the Champions League final last season.

Chelsea and Manchester City are impressed with his performances, and they were hoping to sign him in the coming months. Chelsea paid big money for Marc Cucurella last year. But the former Brighton & Hove Albion defender has failed to live up to the expectations at Stamford Bridge, and his performance has been underwhelming.

Ben Chilwell are Ian Maatsen the only reliable full-backs at the club right now. But Chelsea might look to part ways with Maatsen soon. So, Dimarco could prove to be a quality acquisition. The 25-year-old is entering his peak years and could have sorted out the Chelsea full-back situation for the foreseeable future.

Meanwhile, Manchester City could use a quality full-back as well. They have had to use Josko Gvardiol as a left-back. The Croatian international is more suited to the role of a central defender, and he will be hoping to play in his natural role soon. Pep Guardiola needs to sign a specialist full-back, and the Italian defender certainly fits a profile.

The opportunity to play for clubs like Chelsea and Manchester City can be tempting for most players, but Dimarco is not keen on an exit anytime soon. The player has confirmed that he intends to sign a new contract with Inter Milan, and it remains to be seen whether the Italian giants can finalise the agreement soon.

“I don’t think there will be any problems, I certainly want to renew my contract with Inter.”

The 25-year-old is clearly looking to continue his development with regular football at the Italian club. The two English clubs will probably have to come forward with a substantial offer in order to turn his head. Meanwhile, Inter Milan will not want to sell a key player like him either and they are likely to demand a premium for his services if Chelsea or Manchester City come calling.
