Arsenal, Tottenham closely monitoring Ansu Fati situation

Arsenal and Tottenham are tracking the situation of 20-year-old struggling Barcelona prospect Ansu Fati.

According to Spanish journalist Adrian Sanchez, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur are closely monitoring the situation of Ansu Fati. The 20-year-old prospect is struggling to make his mark for Barcelona. And the Blaugrana might cash in on him in the ongoing transfer window.

Ansu Fati emerged as the potential long-term successor to Lionel Messi when he broke into the FC Barcelona first-team squad. But injury troubles have restricted his progress, and he has not grown much since his debut season. So it is hardly surprising that the Spanish international is now a backup option for Xavi Hernandez.

The 20-year-old has not started the 2023/24 season well, as he managed only 11 minutes of game time against Getafe last week. And Fati’s Barcelona future is uncertain, with widespread reports claiming they are ready to part ways with him. Meanwhile, the struggling attacker remains popular in the market, with Arsenal and Tottenham interested.

The youngster has been on Arsenal’s radar for a long time. And reports in April even suggested that the Gunners were dreaming about signing the Barcelona prospect. But Arsenal’s interest in the player is surprising, considering Gabriel Martinelli and Bukayo Saka are indispensable in the offensive unit.

But Mikel Arteta has constantly insisted that he wants two options for every position. That brings Ansu Fati into the picture, making him a viable target for Arsenal. But the North London giants face stiff competition from local rival Tottenham Hotspur for the Barcelona forward.

Like the Gunners, Tottenham’s interest in the 20-year-old goes back a long way. And with Ange Postecoglou not having many options beyond Son Heung-min and Dejan Kulusevski, Ansu Fati can become an asset for Tottenham. But the two North London clubs are only monitoring Fati’s situation right now.

Recent reports have claimed that Barcelona will be open to loaning Fati out if a permanent exit is not feasible. But the struggling 20-year-old does not want to leave Barcelona and is eager to fight for his place. So a move to Arsenal or Tottenham might not materialise if they launch the offensive.
