Chelsea and Southampton are reportedly discussing a possible summer move for Valentino Livramento, also a target for Newcastle United.
According to a report by Daily Mail, Valentino Livramento is the subject of interest from Chelsea. The 20-year-old Southampton wide man is also a target for Newcastle United. But the Saints have rejected bids from the Tyneside club, as they value him at around £38 million.
Valentino Livramento is a graduate of Chelsea’s fabled youth division. A blistering winger in his initial formative years, the English youth international has remodelled his game to become a right-back. And after leaving Chelsea to join Southampton in search of regular game time, he has come leaps and bounds.
The 20-year-old enjoyed a fantastic debut campaign at St. Mary’s, becoming a regular for Southampton on the right flank. But a long-term knee injury prematurely ended his 2021/22 season while impacting his participation in 2022/23. Nonetheless, Livramento has turned out 34 times thus far for Southampton, chipping in with one goal and two assists.
But following Southampton’s relegation to the EFL Championship, several players are up for grabs. And Livramento has garnered attention from Newcastle United and Chelsea. But the Saints have already rejected bids from the Tyneside club. And they will demand £38 million to part ways with the young wide man.
As for Chelsea’s interest in the Englishman, it is surprising why the Blues want to re-sign him. They will see Malo Gusto join the first-team squad, with Reece James regaining fitness. And while Cesar Azpilicueta will soon join Atletico Madrid, Mauricio Pochettino has enough right-backs at his disposal.
So it is unclear how Livramento might fit into the scheme of things at Chelsea. Nonetheless, the Blues have opened talks with Southampton over a possible move this summer. Interestingly, reports have also claimed that the buyback clause in Livramento’s deal is worth £38 million. And it will be interesting to see if Chelsea will offer £38 million to re-sign him.
The West London club can potentially look to sell him for a profit after re-signing him for £38 million. Meanwhile, the 20-year-old wide man is not the only Southampton prospect on Chelsea’s radar. Romeo Lavia also features highly on the wishlist. And we might see two Southampton youngsters move to Stamford Bridge this summer.
