Chelsea are all set to make a fresh move for 19-year-old Southampton midfielder Romeo Lavia amidst interest from Liverpool.
According to Football Insider, Chelsea are keen on having Romeo Lavia in their ranks. The Blues are all set to make a new move for the 19-year-old, who impressed one and all with impressive performances throughout the 2022/23 season. The Southampton midfielder is also a target for Liverpool, with his price tag set at £45-50 million.
While Southampton struggled throughout and eventually got relegated, the teenager put in consistent performances that have attracted a lot of attention from clubs across Europe. The Belgian midfielder played the most Premier League minutes for a teenager in the recently-concluded season. He was on the pitch for 2231 minutes in his 29 appearances.
The Saints had acquired his services ahead of the 2022/23 season from Manchester City. And, Lavia’s contract with Southampton runs until the summer of 2027. However, the teenager is expected to be on the move in the summer just a year after joining them.
City have a £40 million buy-back clause in Lavia’s contract but it will be active in 2024. However, they might make a direct bid to avoid losing out on the 19-year-old, who is on the radar of Chelsea and Liverpool. As per the report, the Saints will let him leave for a fee of around £45-50 million.
Liverpool have registered their interest in the teenager. They are eyeing a midfield overhaul ahead of next season and Lavia is one of their transfer targets. Meanwhile, Chelsea are pushing for his services. The 19-year-old has been on their radar for a while now, and they are expected to put forward a bid in the coming days.
Chelsea have laid the foundation for a potential deal. And, with Southampton making it clear that they will sell for £45-50 million, the Blues know what they need to do in order to land him at the club.
