Liverpool prioritise move for Khephren Thuram

Liverpool are prioritising a move for OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram as Jurgen Klopp continues to look for quality reinforcements in the middle.

According to L’Equipe, as relayed by GFFN, OGC Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram has become a priority for Jurgen Klopp at Liverpool. The Merssyeiders have lost considerable depth in the area, following a trio of departures, as the young Frenchman emerges highly on their list of potential reinforcements.

Jurgen Klopp entered the summer window with the primary objective of strengthening Liverpool’s midfield options. The German has a growing need in those three central positions, especially after the departures of three former players.

Veteran James Milner has departed the club to join Brighton, while injury-ravaged duo Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita also left on free transfers. The latter has already found a new home in Werder Bremen, but the English star is yet to consider offers.

Their departure has left a gaping hole in Liverpool’s midfield, which consists of ageing stars Jordan Henderson and Thiago Alcantara. Meanwhile, there is also a need for Fabinho’s cover, especially after the Brazilian performed badly last season.

Liverpool have already added Alexis Mac Allister to their squad at the window’s start. However, Klopp is expected to bring in at least two more midfielders in the market, to add quality depth and different options. Klopp may appear to lean towards young stars for solutions, having held talks with the agents of Manu Kone and Khephren Thuram in the process.

Both midfielders are young and making a name for themselves at their respective clubs. Kone could come at an expensive cost comparing the two but they are equally talented in the eyes of many. Thuram, on the other hand, is steadily building a reputation as a strong midfielder in France.

He has an emotional attachment with Nice but could get tempted by the prospect of signing for Liverpool. Klopp has planned fresh talks with the 22-year-old Frenchman’s entourage and his club in the coming days as they look to take advantage of his situation.

Thuram will come across as a cheaper alternative to some of the early targets on Liverpool’s radar. They have already cooled interest in Matheus Nunes and Joao Palhinha, with the Portuguese pair emerging early on Klkopp’s radar.

Thuram has a contract until 2025, which allows Liverpool to push the button and get him at a reasonable price. The idea of playing for a top English side would entice the 22-year-old Frenchman, as he could steadily become the new holding midfielder at Anfield.
