Barcelona table three-year contract to Ilkay Gundogan

Barcelona recently submitted a three-year contract to Ilkay Gundogan, a target for Arsenal, who they are confident of signing.

According to a report by Spanish outlet SPORT, Ilkay Gundogan is on the verge of leaving Manchester City as a free agent. The German international, a target for Arsenal, has yet to sign a new deal with the Premier League champions. And he now has a three-year contract on his table from Barcelona. In addition, the Catalan giants are confident of securing his services this summer.

Ilkay Gundogan has been an extraordinary performer for Manchester City since arriving from Borussia Dortmund in 2016. The 32-year-old endured fitness issues in his first two seasons at the Etihad. But he worked hard to overcome those problems and duly became a pivotal figure for the Premier League heavyweights.

The German international has been an instrumental contributor to Manchester City’s Premier League dominance. And the veteran midfielder has turned out over 300 times for the Citizens while chipping in with 58 goals and 40 assists. Meanwhile, Gundogan’s stock has risen so much that he is currently the Manchester City captain.

But Gundogan’s Manchester City contract will expire soon, and he will become a free agent on July 1. The Premier League champions are keen on keeping hold of the experienced midfielder. But while reports have suggested that an agreement is likely, the developments have been slow. And such a situation has captured the attention of Barcelona and Arsenal.

The 32-year-old has been on Barcelona’s radar for a long time. And the Catalan giants have now made their move, handing a three-year contract to the Manchester City captain. In addition, the report claims confidence in rising in the Barcelona camp to complete a deal for the player.

On the other hand, Mikel Arteta has been pushing Arsenal to secure Gundogan’s services this summer. But with Barcelona launching the offensive, the Gunners must be decisive with their next move. And unless the German midfielder receives an offer from Arsenal, the race for his signature will be between Barcelona and Manchester City.

Reports have also claimed that Gundogan has a verbal agreement to join Barcelona this summer. So all signs point to the Manchester City captain moving to Spotify Camp Nou on a three-year contract if he does not sign a new deal with the Premier League champions.
