Real Madrid considering Joselu move

Real Madrid might reportedly look to sign Spanish veteran striker Joselu from Espanyol in the summer transfer window.

According to a report by Spanish journalist Alfredo Matilla, Joselu is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The Merengues want to re-sign their 33-year-old striker in the summer transfer window. And they will open talks with Espanyol once the Catalan outfit’s fate is sealed.

Joselu spent his formative years with Deportes S.D Silleda and Celta Vigo before graduating from the latter club’s academy. The Spaniard also had a short stint with Real Madrid between 2009 and 2012. And since then, he has been a journeyman, representing eight clubs in the last 11 years.

The 33-year-old is currently at Espanyol, joining the Catalan club from Alaves last summer. And while the Parakeets have been dreadful this season and will probably go down to the second tier, the veteran striker has been a rare bright spot. And he has 16 goals and four assists in 35 outings across all competitions this term.

With Espanyol likely going down to the Segunda Division, Joselu’s future is uncertain. And he will likely leave the Catalan club this summer to join a team in La Liga. That challenge could come with Real Madrid, with Los Blancos keen on re-signing the journeyman striker.

Real Madrid will see Mariano Diaz depart from the Santiago Bernabeu in the summer transfer window. The 29-year-old has been a bit-part player for Los Blancos and wants to embark on a new adventure to resurrect his career. Meanwhile, Real Madrid might sanction Eden Hazard’s sale in the coming months.

So the Merengues will have to dip their toes in the market in the summer transfer window. And Joselu has emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. With Karim Benzema struggling with fitness issues this season, Real Madrid can do with a solid backup to the Frenchman. And the journeyman striker is an option worth considering. But Los Blancos will open talks with Espanyol once their fate is sealed..
