Newcastle United plot Bosman move for Chelsea target Marcus Thuram

Newcastle United are reportedly hoping to sign Borussia Monchengladbach attacker Marcus Thuram, a target for Chelsea.

Marcus Thuram is set to become a free agent at the end of the season, and he is a target for Premier League giants Chelsea as well. A report from 90min claims that Newcastle United have already held talks with the  French international.

Thuram is unlikely to have any shortage of suitors at the end of the season. And it will be interesting to see if Newcastle United can convince him to snap the advances from the top clubs and move to St. James’ Park. The Magpies are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements and the Frenchman could prove to be an exceptional signing for them.

The Borussia Monchengladbach attacker has 15 goals across all competitions this season. And the soon-to-be-free agent would be an upgrade on the likes of Callum Wilson. The Newcastle striker has been hugely underwhelming this season, and Eddie Howe will have to replace him if the Magpies are serious about challenging for the major trophies.

Thuram is capable of playing anywhere across the front three and his versatility will be an added bonus. Signing a player of his ability on a free transfer could prove to be a major bargain.

Meanwhile, Chelsea need to add goals to their side as well. Thuram has proven himself to be a reliable goal scorer in the Bundesliga, and the Blues need someone who can finish off chances for them.

Summer signing Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been extremely disappointing and is set to leave the club soon. That leaves the Blues with Armando Broja as the only striker at the club. Graham Potter needs to add more goals to his side, and the 25-year-old Frenchman seems like the ideal target.

Newcastle United are well-placed to push for Champions League qualification this season, and they will be an attractive destination for players if they manage to finish in the top four. On the other hand, Chelsea are tenth in the league table and might struggle to attract top talents without the lure of Champions League football.
