Barcelona recently enquired about 19-year-old German prodigy Florian Wirtz, whose market value is €70 million.
According to reputed German journalist Florian Plettenberg, Florian Wirtz is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants have sounded out a possible move for the German prodigy. But Bayer Leverkusen will unlikely part ways with the youngster, whose market value is €70 million.
Florian Wirtz is one of the most prodigious young prospects in his homeland. The 19-year-old started his youth career at SV Grun-Weiss Brauweiler. But he spent most of his formative years with 1. FC Koln before landing at Bayer Leverkusen in 2020. And the teenage wonderkid has gone from strength to strength at BayArena, a long-term knee injury notwithstanding.
The German prodigy has seen his market value soar in the last three years to €70 million. And Wirtz has done well to bounce back from his long layoff, amassing two goals and six assists in 13 appearances this term. Meanwhile, the youngster’s progress has not gone unnoticed, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
The Catalan giants hold a long-standing interest in Wirtz, first setting their sights on him shortly after he joined Bayer Leverkusen. And they have continued to monitor his progress closely in the last three years. Barcelona recently rekindled the interest in the 19-year-old as he returned to action.

The interest in the German prodigy is hardly surprising, considering his versatility. The youngster can play as a right-winger, a no. 10, and a box-to-box midfielder. That makes him a one-stop solution for Barcelona for at least the next decade, if not longer. And Barcelona recently enquired about his availability in the coming transfer windows.
But the Blaugrana will unlikely sign Wirtz this year, with Bayer Leverkusen ruling out a summer move. In addition, the player and his entourage will only move on to the next phase of his evolution after UEFA Euro 2024. So a deal in the summer transfer window of 2024 might be on the cards.

However, Barcelona should be in the pole position to sign Wirtz whenever he leaves Bayer Leverkusen. That is because the 19-year-old German prodigy has admitted to harbouring dreams of joining Barcelona. However, the German outfit will likely demand a premium for his services.
