Barcelona ready to table bid to sign Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

Beleaguered Chelsea star Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang remains a target for Barcelona, who might soon lodge an offer to sign him.

According to a report by Nizaar Kinsella of the Evening Standard, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to end the player’s frustrations at Chelsea. And they are ready to table a cut-price bid to sign the beleaguered striker in the summer transfer window.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has seen his career spiral out of control in the last 18 months. The 33-year-old was once among the best strikers in the Premier League and even won the Golden Boot. But his attitude issues were his undoing at Arsenal before he joined Barcelona in the winter of 2022.

However, Aubameyang’s Barcelona stint lasted just six months as he fell down the pecking order after the arrival of Robert Lewandowski. The Gabonese striker left Barcelona to join Chelsea on deadline day last summer. But his fortunes have continued to dwindle, as he has managed only three goals and one assist in 18 appearances.

Aubameyang’s stature has plummeted so much that he has managed only seven minutes of game time since the January transfer window shut down. And Chelsea even attempted to sell him to LAFC last month before a move failed to materialise. But that might have worked for the best for the player, who has emerged on Barcelona’s radar. This comes in the wake of him being present for the dressing room celebrations after the win in El Clasico this past weekend.

Barcelona wanted to re-sign Aubameyang in the January transfer window. But FIFA rules prevented them from bringing the beleaguered Chelsea star back to Spotify Camp Nou. However, the continued interest is understandable, considering Xavi Hernandez does not have a viable backup to Lewandowski in his squad.

The Catalan giants have struggled for goals whenever Lewandowski has been unavailable. And re-signing Aubameyang from Chelsea might be the perfect  business for Barcelona. In addition, the 33-year-old reportedly dreams of rejoining Barcelona in the summer transfer window. And the Blaugrana will soon submit a cut-price offer to re-sign him.

The Gabonese striker’s stock has fallen considerably. So Chelsea cannot hope to recoup a sizable sum from his sale. But parting ways with Aubameyang will be the right decision for Chelsea before they enter the market for a striker.
