According to a report by Italian outlet Calciomercatoweb, Federico Chiesa is the subject of interest from Barcelona. The Catalan giants want to sign the Italian winger from Juventus in the summer transfer window. And they might offer a part-exchange deal to facilitate a move in the coming months.
Federico Chiesa has been one of the brightest sparks for Juventus in the last three years. The Italian giants have gone through a lull during this period, with their trophy-winning spree ending. But the 25-year-old has gone from strength to strength, a long-term injury notwithstanding.
The Italian winger has bounced back from the fitness issues superbly, chipping in with two goals and four assists in 16 appearances. But Chiesa’s market value has dropped slightly to €60 million. However, that does not deter high-profile clubs, with Barcelona among his prospective suitors.
Barcelona might have to delve into the market for a wide attacker in the summer transfer window. That is because Ferran Torres and Ansu Fati face uncertain futures at Spotify Camp Nou. While the latter has attracted clubs like Manchester United and Liverpool, the former is the subject of interest from Tottenham.
So Barcelona will need to be ready to replace either player if he leaves in the summer transfer window. Several candidates have thus popped up on Barcelona’s radar, including Arda Guler. And Chiesa is also an option worth considering amid the controversies surrounding Juventus.
The Italian winger has his best years ahead of him and can play on either flank. That will be an attractive quality to consider for Barcelona as they look to replace either Torres or Fati. But Juventus will likely demand much more than Chiesa’s market value of €60 million, with his contract running until June 30, 2025.
That might put a spanner in the works for Barcelona as they cannot afford to pay €60 million to sign a single player, let alone anything more than that. So a part-exchange deal might be the best solution. But it will be interesting to see if Juventus will be open to such an operation for the Italian winger.
