Real Madrid will reportedly pursue 23-year-old Marseille midfielder Matteo Guendouzi if they fail to sign Jude Bellingham.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Matteo Guendouzi is the subject of interest from Real Madrid. The reigning La Liga champions view the 23-year-old Marseille midfielder as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.
Matteo Guendouzi has resurrected his career since joining Marseille from Arsenal. The Frenchman had shown promising signs at the Emirates but could not progress as much as he would have wanted due to attitude issues. He moved to Marseille on an initial loan deal 18 months ago before signing a permanent deal last summer.
The 23-year-old has enjoyed a solid 2022/23 season, chipping in with four goals and four assists in 27 appearances. The player was also a part of France’s squad at the 2022 FIFA World Cup as Les Bleus reached the final. And Guendouzi’s progress has captured the attention of Real Madrid.
The French international was a target for Aston Villa in the summer transfer window. And amid the emerging interest from Real Madrid, he might be happy that the move to Villa Park did not materialise. Meanwhile, the Merengues view the youngster as an alternative to Jude Bellingham.
The English international is the top target for Real Madrid for the summer transfer window. But amid intense competition for Bellingham, it behoves Los Blancos to identify alternatives. The 23-year-old recently emerged as a target for Newcastle United. Meanwhile, Liverpool and Manchester City also remain keen on signing the teenage sensation.
As for Guendouzi, the 23-year-old World Cup finalist is a multi-faceted midfielder. The Frenchman can play as a holding midfielder and a box-to-box midfielder. And with Luka Modric and Toni Kroos approaching the end of their glittering careers, the former Arsenal midfielder is a viable target for Real Madrid.
