Chelsea could switch their attention towards Dani Olmo as an alternative to Mykhaylo Mudryk if the Ukrainian proves challenging to achieve.
According to Fichajes, Chelsea are interested in a move for Dani Olmo this month as Todd Bhely continues to search the market for attacking talents. The RB Leipzig star could become an alternative to Mykhaylo Mudryk if the Ukrainian becomes challenging to achieve, but Olmo already courts heavy interest from many other clubs.
Dani Olmo could become an exciting option in the current window or during the summer, as his contractual situation at RB Leipzig is alarming. The Bundesliga playmaker’s current deal ends in 2024, which has alerted many potential suitors about his availability.
Leipzig remains uninterested in entertaining offers for the playmaker, but the stance might change if a solid proposal comes their way. Olmo is a regular for the Bundesliga side and the Spanish national side. Still, calls continue to increase over a return to his homeland, with Barcelona reportedly keen to sign him.
The Catalans are wary of spending heavily on the Bundesliga playmaker but will open the doors if they can secure a financially sound deal. Hence, the likelihood of Premier League sides luring Olmo to England remains high, with Chelsea now entering the race for the Spanish international.
The Blues are in the market for attacking reinforcement to improve their underwhelming season. Their attackers have yet to find the rhythm, and owner Todd Boehly is aggressively trying to sign players for the club. Chelsea doesn’t have a pattern to their targets, but some of the names mentioned are high profile.
They need someone who can play in wide areas and centrally, which Olmo regularly does for club and country. Chelsea have good relations with Leipzig following the deal for Christopher Nkunku, while they are also talking for Josko Gvardiol over a future move.
The Blues could approach Olmo in the coming days, pending the outcome of the Mykhaylo Mudryk pursuit. The winger reportedly considers joining Chelsea, but Arsenal are still the Ukranian’s preferred choice this month. The Gunners have seen two offers rejected and stay in contact with Shakhtar Donetsk over a potential move.
Chelsea are also in talks with Shakhtar, but neither club has come close to matching the Ukrainian side’s €100 million valuations. The huge price tag could prove problematic, although, in Mudryk’s case, the Gunners are current favourites.
Hence, Chelsea would like a contingency plan if Mudryk rejects their approaches or if they cannot agree on terms with Shakhtar. For this purpose, they want to explore the idea of Olmo and see whether the Bundesliga playmaker is available for a transfer this month.
