Chelsea, Liverpool, and Newcastle United lead the race to sign Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo this month.
According to a report from Daily Mirror, Brighton & Hove Albion have reduced their asking price for Moises Caicedo to £65 million. And Chelsea, Liverpool and Newcastle United are the front-runners to secure the services of the 21-year-old.
Apparently, the Ecuadorian midfielder was valued at £85 million initially. But Brighton are now prepared to accept an offer of around £60 million plus add-ons. And a bid worth £65 million might be enough for the Premier League club to sell Caicedo.
The 21-year-old joined Brighton for a fee of around £4 million back in February 2021. And he has developed into a key player for them. Caicedo is certainly one of the most talented young midfielders in the Premier League and could prove to be an exceptional acquisition for all three clubs.
Chelsea will need to find a replacement for Jorginho, who could leave the club as a free agent. And Caicedo has emerged as a viable target for the west London club. Meanwhile, Liverpool are in a similar situation and could lose the likes of Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Naby Keita and James Milner on free transfers at the end of the season.
Recent reports have claimed that Caicedo wants to join Liverpool when he leaves Brighton. As far as Newcastle United are concerned, Eddie Howe needs to bring in upgrades on the likes of Jonjo Shelvey. And Caicedo could be the ideal partner for Bruno Guimaraes at the heart of his midfield.
The young Ecuadorian international certainly has the potential to justify the £65 million asking price. And it remains to be seen whether his suitors are prepared to break the bank for him.
Chelsea will probably feel that they have an edge in the transfer chase because of Graham Potter’s presence at the helm. The Englishman worked with Caicedo at Brighton, and he might be able to convince the 21-year-old to snub the other Premier League clubs and move to Stamford bridge.
Potter played a key role in the player’s development, and the midfielder could be open to a reunion. It will be interesting to see if either of the three clubs come forward with a concrete offer and try to sign the player this month. All three clubs are fighting for a place in the UEFA Champions League, and a top-class addition in January could really boost their hopes of a top-four finish.
