La Liga champions Real Madrid have reportedly lodged an offer to sign Spanish full-back Pedro Porro amid interest from Tottenham.
According to a report by Spanish outlet Defensa Central, Real Madrid tabled an offer to sign Pedro Porro this year. But the Spanish full-back, who has a release clause worth €45 million, is closing in on joining Tottenham. While the north Londoners have not secured an agreement yet, the player wants to join them.
Pedro Porro has been sensational since joining Sporting CP from Manchester City. The 23-year-old, who rose to prominence at Girona FC, never got to make his mark at the Etihad. But he has gone from strength to strength in the last two and a half years at the Portuguese club.
The Spanish full-back spent two seasons on loan at Sporting CP before completing a permanent move in the summer. And Porro has been brilliant thus far this season, chipping in with two goals and ten assists in 21 appearances. The player’s progress has not gone unnoticed either, with Real Madrid and Tottenham setting their sights on him.
Real Madrid will need a viable alternative to Dani Carvajal from next season, with the Spaniard’s performance levels waning. The veteran full-back has seen fitness issues plague him in the last few years. In addition, Lucas Vazquez has blown hot and cold in the past twelve months. Several right-backs, including Achraf Hakimi, have popped up on Real Madrid’s radar.
But Porro has also emerged as a viable target for Real Madrid. The Spanish full-back already has experience in La Liga and is an attractive option for Los Blancos. In addition, his release clause, worth €45 million, comfortably falls within Real Madrid’s budget. But the 23-year-old is seemingly closing in on joining Tottenham, even though the Merengues have submitted an offer for him.
Recent reports have claimed that the former Manchester City defender is a priority target for the north Londoners. And Porro is keen on joining Tottenham, meaning a January move is possible. That might help Antonio Conte heave a sigh of relief amid Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty’s inconsistencies.
It is unclear if Tottenham will offer €45 million to sign the Spanish full-back, considering Sporting will only let him leave if a suitor triggers his release clause. But Real Madrid will unlikely land Porro in the January transfer window.
